I seen these pics on this site and i was wondering how they handle on and off road...............im guessing the axle rap is UNREAL, but that is just a guess. If you are useing this set up and you like it let me know what kinda spring you are useing because i have need for more flex .

thanks

No one does that, it will make your truck flip over backwards...

:headscratch: It looks interesting...I don't understand the point of it, from what I can tell it's just some ubolts on the frame...holding the bed up  ???

sadly i have it. or had it. i still have the buggy spring in there but its welded down now. so no more of that. no more unloading on side hills. no more mega axle wrap.

So what is the point of the 3 ubolts? It looks foreign to me.... :headscratch:

the u bolts are to hold the buggy leaf to the frame. i welded a block to the frame where the shackle meets the buggy leaf. i would have just taken it out but since my runner is bobbed so much i had to leave it. its weird. i can't really explain it

Ooooh ok I see now.  I didn't see the leaf before :smack:

Interesting...and come to think of it now that I see the leaf, I think I have seen it run before :hammer:

The axle wrap is easy to deal with, just put a bar on it.
I was never all that pleased with how my buggy leaf setup worked. I'm am much happier with my missing link dual shackle set up. Doesn't seam as tempermental as the leaf.

I think everyone should do that once and bring their rig up here to the PNW.  it'd be great as soon as everyone got home to the internet they be preaching against buggies, dropaway shackles and all related free droop evices just as I do.  Up here no trails are flat or even, they are all rutted, steep and very steep or have long down hill grades.  All those types of setups look cute on a ramp but suck offroad up here.  But hey we all know that looking good on a ramp is what its all about right? ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Funny, I don't remember too many flat spots on Rubicon.

No offense, but the idea doesnt even seem smart :screwy:  along the lines of WT, not many trails where you would want that setup have even ground.  I'd want to be more stable, and have to be more catreful on a line to keep from scraping or getting through, than to havwe to worry about flopping it going over a rock downhill

Well, that's cool, but i've NEVER had an instance on the trail or the street where my missing link felt like it was going to cause a roll over, or any other unwanted handling issues. It's all about how you engineer it.

What exactly is your missing link suspension?  I dont think I have seen it.  I just remember risding in a 4runner with bugy leafs, and feeling like it was gonna dump me onto the floorboards everytuime he hit the brakes.  We did one side hill :yikes:  entire time me and the driver were leaning all the way to my side, just to keep the pass. side in contact with the ground.  We got back, and the buggies came out

Kind of a poor mans revolver. One shackle lies flat against the frame, then the other regular shackle hangs from that one down to the spring. It doesn't try and push away like a buggy leaf does, it only drops when the suspension droops and pulls it away.
I still run the panhard bar on my runner to keep the shackles from slipping sideways. On my old truck I had it set up so when the shackle was flat on the frame, it was 'captured' to keep it from moving sideways.
I like it way better than the buggy leaf I used to run, it only drops when its supposed to, and it definetly helps with the lack of rear travel most trucks have.

would you mind posting a pic of your set up.

No offence taken..........i thought it looked alittle goofy, thats why i asked if anyone was running them and if they liked them or not. Im in the search of a little thing called flex ,flex and more flex for my toyota. I just wanna check out all my options. So if you guys have anymore suggestions that would be slick.

thanks

James's truck is the green one in the pictures.  He loves the buggy springs a lot.  He use to have the double shackles and then switched to these and liked them better.  They don't unload becasue they are a negative arch.  They are the main leaf from a stock front pack.  But i am runningthe double shackle and like it a lot.  I won't run a buggy leaf because they "can" unload unexpectedly.  Double shackle won't do that.  It will only extend once the spring is fully dropped.  Gives it about 6 inches more of drop so the tire will touch the ground giving it more traction.

FIREBALL

I'll try and post up some pics tomorrow. I've got to do some searchin around for them.

I have a setup like that but mine has 3 bolts going through the whole frame.  I'll post a pic up tomorrow.  I like it and drove mine for a while as a DD.  Didn't seem to have any problems with it.  I don't see whats to wrong with it as long as its bolted through the frame.  It is a little squirrely on the road sometimes but no worse than a 3 link front and rear.  I would recommend attaching them better to the frame and put a restrictor of some sort so that it won't drop when you slam on the brakes on the road.  Weld on a piece of metal on each side of the frame near the rear shackle and drill a whole through each piece then put a bolt through it so that it won't unload on you when your driving.  I would have to agree its not the best setup in the world but it has worked for me and it came on my 4 Runner when I got it and so far I haven't really been to bothered by it.  It also help when you have adjustable shocks though on the front to help the nose dive and swaying on the road.  I'm running RS9012 shocks front and 5000's rear.

mr4x42u

so what happens when you have to back up with the buggy leaf??the tire gets pushed against a big ass rock and gets shoved under the truck bending the buggy leaf??seen in happen a few times..man thats got to suck..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

i used a limiting strap on mine for road use, but it still was scary as hell if i used to much big pedal :yikes:

Shamb

If you want more flex get some revolving shackles. I have a buddy that's got some 8" revolvers and his rig can reach the top of PC's ramp easly.

Dont go buggy leafs.. those are so overrated and dangerous..

just my opinion...  :twocents:

sorry I'm on the wrong computer I'll send them either later tonight or tomorrow

lilbuddy

Dont do buggys. I did dual shackles (missing link) and I tightend them really tight where they mount to the frame, so far no scary unloading. It flexes nice too...

Heres a pic:

I'll take another close up later and post it.  I'm not trying to diss anyone who is running the dual shackle setup.  I think its cool to be honest.  I'm just saying that for my personal setup it works for me and I have slammed on my brakes numerous times and driven up mountain roads and not had problems with it unloading on me.  I do agree that its possible don't take me wrong, its just that the way mine is setup it works really well.  It is really scare though and I can see why to others if you don't have adjustable shocks up front.  It makes my rig feel like a completely different vehicle.  I always though adjustable shocks where crap and a joke until I acutally had them and I'm impressed on how different it makes my rig feel on and off road.
