the reason i ask, is that i cut off all the front sheetmetal. and i wont be using any wiring but what the engine needs.i know the alternator charges from that box but what else would i need in it?

no, you need the 30 and the 40, those are both main fuses for the truck, the 80 and the 60 are diesel only.

The 80 amp is the main bus fuse that connects to the battery. It protects the alternator and battery from electrical spikes.  Its in all truck from that gen. carb, deisel and EFI. The dual labels are because the deisels have a fuel heater and glow plugs require a lot of direct current.  Grab a service manual and look at the charging and power distribution circuits.

oh well, I know my 84 don't, and I don't remember it being there on my 79. maybe thats what I shoulda said.

If it is an early model truck, with a 40 amp alternater, then just the 30 and 40.  Later trucks with the 60 amp alt stepped up to the 80 amp buss fuse.
