Also the tubework where your sliders should be should tuck up closer to the body so no clearance issues come up when running rocks.

Interesting design; at least he got an exo going on...I gots issues of my own!

crawlerdan

um.... well i think that ita a great design, however, im with the rest of the masses when they say that the tubing closer to the body will be much better later on down the road, take a peak at the exo i built, and the hundreds of others on this site, on the con, stock sheetmetal width can be an issue sometimes, adding a foot to that could be serious problems. and things may be able to get caught on the tubing, minew was 1.25 inches from the fenders at the most  good luck buddy

Couple things now that I have gotten over the shock...
Harbor Freight bender right?  Top of the A-pillars are kinked.  Forget clearing away branches, you are gonna take the whole forest with you.  It isn't that bad though, you already have a bunch af good bends and good ideas there, maybe just you need to grind out the welds and cut a bit off of there and snug things up.  The little extra peices can be used for gusseting.  You really gotta do something, if only for the fact that all that extra tube is adding weight, and the drag you are gonna have goiing down the road is gonna be rediculou.  Your MPG gonna drop like a stone.

I am also going to say that you did to much bending and went at the pumping too fast.  With those pipe benders you need to take it easy and slow to keep the kinking down...you also need to adjust to the widest pin placement, you can't make tight 90's.  There are a bunck of places where a well cut node would have (and still could) work better than some of the bends, it would also cut down on the number of bends that had to be made...

Here...see what I mean about nodes...this follows the lines of the truck, you still get your coverage, but I have reduced the whole thing to just 3 bends.  Cleaner and stronger.

Are those the 36*15.5 Irok's?  What size shackle did you run?  When you take the top off, does the rear have a bit more lift than the front?  Sorry for the 20 questions, I'm just trying to figure out what I want to run on my 84 4Runner.  I've got some rears for the front and F-150's for the rear but I keep eyeing that kit

Sorry for the delay I have been wheeling on Dusy & workin on the rig.
They are 36*13.5 Irok's and I love them !!! Shackle size is 6.25" Yes if the top is off it does. with the top on it rides level.

i'm no expert either (only 18) but when u make another exo cage make it out of DOM tubing, alot stronger and lighter. little pricier tho, but well worth it. design wise i'd lower down ur front a bit, not make it so wide either.

More Marlin 4" flex kit in action here in Hawaii...

HAULIN' WITH MARLIN... :screwy:

CRAWLIN WITH MARLIN... :turtle:  :driving:

*******************

ALSO, THEM PIX I PROMISED. BRAND NEW ALL PRO 5" vs BRAND NEW MARLIN 4":
The springs are rusty because they are currently stored outside in a friend's yard less than a mile from the beach.

Rear comparison:  note that the AP 5's are not as tall as the M 4's.

Front comparison:  nearly identical, AP 5's and M 4's, though M 4's we had were a hair higher...

:_order:

***Oh. Just noticed the AllPro on my hood in some of the pix. Well, a friend who runs AllPro did that...to each his own...in  :turtle: I trust...

Yeah...did I mention the weather sux too?  :dunno:

SLOYOTA808

So either Marlins are under-rated, or All-Pro is over-rated.  Didn't bother to compare before and after height on the rig I built.  Perhaps anyone who is planning on installing a Marlin kit could take before and after measurements.  Or better yet, if someone already did take these measurements, posting the results would be cool and pertinent to this thread.

wa4x4

So I already have marlins shackles. If i get this kit can i save 140 bucks and tell him to not not send his shackles?

You might wanna call the boys at  :turtle:  and see the difference in pricing.  I am sure they'll adjust the price accordingly, by you not adding in the shackles since you already have them.  I ordered my high steer kit a few months before the flex kit, and they adjusted the price.  Good luck to ya!

wa4x4

Ya marlin seems like the kind of guy that would take off what I paid for his shackles off the price. I got the 2.5 over stock shackles for 140. So it would make sense he would adjust it by 140.

I know the feeling.  For Hawaii, the challenge is the shipping.  A friend had recently paid $165.000 to have 1 Marlin skid plate shipped UPS.  We subsequently found a freight-forwarding company that did all the leg work including driving to Marlin's door to pick up our stuff.  4 Skid plates, a Dual Ultimate Crawler, 3 adapters, 2 Trail flex kits, 4 additional springs, and various other add-ons later, 6 of us in Hawaii were happy people...until we got the credit card bills!

Money is made to spend; we can't take it to the grave.

What better way to spend it than fixing up a Toyota!

And I tell my wife I could take up a mistress or crack instead...

Federally insured.

I would let them take whatevewr they want, as long as the girls don't get hurt.

Unfortunately, I currently have 7 girls working with me, so make that 7 supervisors I need to contend with.  Anyone thinking how lucky I am needs to get their head examined!
