Need rear shock mount ideas???
« on: Jul 20, 2005, 06:26:37 PM »
Ok, I already mounted the bottom of the shock tabs to the top of the rear axle on my 85. We also welded up a 1x1 piece of tubing that came off of the round factory tube to mount the top of the shock to. Well, it worked for a time but it has now broken off b/c it wasn't strong enough. Since I already have the tabs welded to the top of the axle for the bottom of the shock to mount like /\ I don't want to mount them any other way. Anybody have any ideas or pics of something to rig for the top mounts but not going through the bed? Any help would be appreciated!

I've seen guys run a piece of tubing  on top of the frame but still under the bed, just side to side and weld the upper mounts to that.

IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I drilled several sets of holes along a 2x2x1/4 angle iron and welded it on top of the crossmember/tube.  That way I can adjust the angle and length of the shocks depending on which set of holes I want to use.  It works great but I added alot of reinforcement to it.
