4.7 shift rail C-clip?
« on: Jul 17, 2005, 07:44:28 AM »
I just finished installing my 4.7 gears in an early case (79-83) and did not use the replacement C-clip. Whoops! :ack:
Everything seems to spin/shift fine. Is the clip absolutely needed or will the stock one work ok?

The orginal c-clip is too big and will hit the larger low speed gear. It cannot be reused.

The provided c-clip will provide a solid stop for the 2wd to 4wd shift.

It does not have to be there.    It will not cause it to pop out of gear or make any noise.
If you choose not to use the c-clip, make sure that the t-case shift handle moves free and does not come in contact with the body or is in a bind when it is in 4wd high range.
