I have a 1992 fj80 landcruiser.
Is there any way to make the fj part time 4x4 instead of full time 4x4?
I thought about just pulling the front driveshaft till winter comes.
Would this cause any problems since the flange on the transfer case
would still be turning?
Anyway to swap in a toyota truck transfer case in?
Would this save any gas?

wouldn't it be easier to just add some manual hubs?? :dunno:
But taking off your driveshaft shouldn't hurt anything.
You have a Jeep?  That's cute.... So does Barbi.

There is no 2wd hi just a hi and low 4wd so even with manual hubs the transfer case would still
be in 4wd :rivers:

Maybe you could put one of those rear axle disconnect setups on the front axle, cable activated or something?  notajeep is right though, you are still gonna have those hubs locked so the axle shafts are gonna be creating drag.  I assume you want better gas mileage?
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Would toyota axles fit the land cruiser front axle.
And even if I put manual hubs on there is still no 2wd  only 4wd hi and low.
So won't the truck still be turning the front driveshaft.

Theres an Australian company that offers a part time 4WD conversion for the early model FJ80's.  I can't remember who it is, but if you search the ih8mud forum I'm sure some of those guys would know.  I think it included a new center housing for the tcase and some manual locking hubs, but like I said, I can't remember.  Check out ih8mud.com

Yeah I think that it's like Marks in Aust.
However this kit is way $$$ and it seams pretty technical.
However I was wondering if anyone ever swapped in like
a toyota truck transfer case? This seems like it would be easier

I have not invented the adapter ypu are looking for yet.
I have been busy getting the rear disconnect going and keeping very busy at the shop.

I have had very good instrest in the dual case for the FJ80 and look forward to getting it done.

i believe the tcase in thoughs are open to the front and rear axles, so if you pull the front shaft and or unlock the drive flange it will not move at all, i could be wrong
