I remember in the FSM is said not to let the balls fall out, that, that would be bad....hmmm......I'll look it up tomorrow for ya.

Put a very liberal amount of STICKY grease on them and screw it back together.  Its really not that hard.  Fill the little steel tube with them and the put the rest into the wormgear.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

QuoteA crucial step I -don't- show is the replacement of the recirculating balls. I was so focused on figuring out how to reinstall them that I neglected to take a picture. I should have the opportunity to take pics when John does his next weekend. This is the drill: Inside the piston is a spiral race that matches the spiral race on the steering input shaft. There is a tube that interrupts the spiral race in the piston near the top and bottom providing a continuous path for the balls to re circulate. It's sort of like slides and ladders with the spiral race playing the part of the slide and the tube playing the part of the ladder. First fill the tube with balls, then pack the entirety of the spiral race between the inlet and outlet of the tube with the remaining balls. I did it with the piston on its side and the spiral race coated with a thick layer of grease to hold the balls in place. I used a small flat bladed screwdriver to pick up a small blob of grease and a ball then plaster it into position in the spiral race. Once all the balls are installed, carefully thread the spiral race section of the shaft into the spiral race section of the piston which now contains all the balls embedded in a layer of grease.

It always helps when its fresh in someones mine.  I broke my sector shaft off 2 weeks ago so while I had the new box out of the rig I went ahead and ported it for hydro assist so its very fresh in my mind. ;)

I was nervous about those damned balls but once I bucked up and just did it I found it uber easy and nothing to be affraid of at all.

My friend was going to borrow it to see if that was his problem. He has hydro-assist but it doesn't work for :pokinit:. So he was going to port my box but couln't get the piston out so I did it for him. But just didn't know how to get the balls back in. It only took like 15 mins.  But I tore the teflon seal :hammerhead: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
