observation of this board
« on: Jul 06, 2005, 04:38:21 PM »
hey guys,
i'm only new here but something that i have noticed is that the majority of the build-ups stay leaf in the rear.
there doesn't seem to be much in the way of coils or air shocks.

from a outsiders perspective, it doesn't seem as though you have any respect for road regulations in regards to vehicle modificationsso why would you stay with the leafs?
here in Australia, modifications have to be engineered aproved to be deemed legal.

what are you thoughts?

cheers joel

As soon as I feel a need to get more flex than Chevy rears, then I'll do fourlink, until then, staying with leafs.
Besides, setting up antisquat correctly is a biach.

I am by no means an expert at this but I think the main reason is that it is too expensive for a lot of people to do. Leaves are cheap and work great. 3 and 4 links with coils are a little harder to get to work properly and are more expensive. Plus I really dont know of a company that sells these kits (with a reasonable price tag). these are just my observations and not fact at all... :twocents:
Personally I would love to have a linked setup in the front of my rig.

very valid pionts there.

it really occured to me as i'm researching to do a 3link a-frame setup at the moment. you'd have to think that is definately a market for a coil conversion kit that is a bolt on setup.

You'd have to look, but I beleive that has been brought up on this board in the past :yesnod:  I beleive it was deemed not cost effective.

I plan on doing a rear 4 link when the money comes in.  The chevy's flex great but they are rock anchors on both front and rear mounts.

I think this is what you are wanting to see? One of my club members just got this done, and we have a couple Samurai's running around on coils/links on all 4 ends.

I stay leaf to be different.  If and when I go linked Ill do it in a very unusual way to keep myself from looking like every other truck on the trail.  That is my single biggest complaint about vehicles.  Many people do things exactly the same, that is completely boring to me.  If your doing the exact same mods as the next guy how can you ever be better than him?
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

One of my other members rigs, but he seems to sell these things faster than he gets them. I would expect to see him driving something different on just about every run.

This would be our mild mannered rig until he gets in his Super-Sammi costume.
