My dad has an 1989 Chevy Blazer with 1/2 ton drivetrain (factory limited slip rear).  He would like to have some lockers installed, but the budget is tight.  I have a list of questions for anyone with the knowledge.  His goal is more traction since he is getting less agressive with age.

(1) What axles does he have front and rear? (I think he has a 10 bolt rear, correct?)

(2) Does he have to get a new carrier to install an Detroit EZ type locker in the rear (due to factory limited slip)?

(3) Is he going to blow his front axles with a Detroit EZ locker?  He drives as easy as anyone possibly could.
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

I think so

I'm not sure.  I would think he could just take the facotry limited slip out :dunno:

Probably not.  However, if he does driving in the snow, you may want to encourage him to get a selectable locker instead.  a full lovker is not a great idea in the snow, I havent had any real problems yet, but it can casue some extra slippage at times

10 bolts front and rear. Don't know much about the carriers though.

My dad would love to have selectable lockers, but will never spend the money.  I have more spare cash, and am more willing to spend it on my truck, than he does and I have a Detroit rear and a Trutrac front.

I think he would be happy with an automatic locker in the rear, but if he goes into the differentials he was to change the gears so that he can make better use of his 700R4 OD.

Maybe I can find someone who is parting out a Chevy with locked a geared diffs for him, hmm.
