Emissions testing in Texas starting Sept.01
« on: Jun 23, 2005, 05:32:54 PM »
Well the time has finally come for smog testing in Texas. My problem is that I have a 94 ext cab with a 76 vette motor which I know will fail due to no cats. Not to mention its carbureted. What can I do to pass? Will tweaking the carb help ?I know I'm not the only one running a small block in a Toyota. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I'd rather push a Toyota than drive a Jeep!!!

Welcome to the  :bull crap:  of smogging your cars. If that thing was here you would never be passing ever. Sure hope Texas rules are not the same, just for starters the engine is older than the truck so you could never ever pass California emmissions. What you need to do is start asking those that are going to be doing the smogging. Are the locations state run or independant operators, go and ask what the rules are, you may only have to put on a cat or you may have to do a lot more. I know I'm not giving you answers but every state is different. I know you can get away with alot more in Arizona and you better hope they modelled it after them and not us.

Do like everybody else does, move to FL. We don't even have a vehicle inspection here anymore so you can drive any junk on the road so long as you have a tag or a piece of card board that says lost tag.

BTW in order to do a legit engine swap, the engine used has to be atleast or a newer year than the vehicle it is transplanted in, so at the inspection station they might not even look at it.
You win some, you lose some.
