n.c.84

I have a problem with my gas gauge not reading above half a tank. it sits there most of the time when the truck is running. the previous owner siad that he thought he broke the sending unit by syphoning from the tank. i called the junk yard looking for this part...junkyard dude asks if the fuel pump and the sending unit are all together or seperate. i have no clue because the 84 is my only trans. any ideas on this subject. should i buy the whole fuel pump or just the sending unit on its own? and which ever it is can someone here selll me one? thanks yall!

If it's carburated then it shouldn't have a pump in the tank therefore all you have in the tank is a sending unit.
