moving front axle

just how far can you physically move the front axle forward with crossover?  i havent put the box on yet.  im just curious cause i wanna lower my truck.  but i cant cause the axle engine clearance isnt there now but it would clear with the axle moved!

i almost forgot its an 84 x cab  im not worried about the springs im changing all that at the same time ao no worries im just wondering if I you can get 6 in out of it safely? :greengrin:

I moved my axle forward 2 inchs but i had to do a little trimming to make the ifs steering box fit. I worked great. :chug:

With a little reworking of the body mount it is possible to move the box forward almost 5inches.
if you move or remove the mount you can gain around eight.
I cut into the body mount area  :~~: and stretched the sheet metal back reworked that whole area to gain about an inch and a half. I also ground the box a little depending on suspension movement and need i can move the axle as much as 5.5 forward from stock.
I wish I had a digital camera so I could post up some pics. Ill see what i can do.

thanx for the info :up: i would be very interested in seeing your setup.  the springs im gonna use are off of a 64? plymouth savoy :headshake: damn thing is gonna have more brands than a used car dealer!  the springs if i remember right were 21.5 in. forward and 34??? rearward :drool: the front mount is going forward 2 in. and down at least 1 havent decided yet.  the shackle is going under the fram i may drill the perches havent decided on that yet either.

Ihave my axle moved foward two inches and will be putting my x-over in over the weeend so I will soot some pics and let ya know....

5" forward: 2" back on the perch redrill, 2" from offset springs(rears), 1" from front hanger postion, moved the ifs box all the way to the bodymount...

Booger do you have any up close pics of your box and new dropped hanger? I'm doing mine next weekend and I've been checking out your stuff on Pirate. Just curious how your steering box ended up.
