Well when I started this fun, I had a "street legal" '83 Toy that was very sketchy on the legal part. Last season I trailered the whole time (loved it) and I am now swapping over to a Formula Toy chassis so I figured I'd Green Tag it and be done with it. My plates expired in August of this year and I figured I'd get the tags before I had to pay the normal renewal fees as well.

Did a bit of research and found that if I took the Title and the plates, things should go prety smooth. Get to the Clovis DMV and talk to this lady who obviously has had a long day and is appaulled (?) that there are more people who need her help (lucky me). I tell her it's current and I'd like to change it to OHV status before the tags expire. She blows up and is just giving me crap like "how dare I ask this of her." She gives me litteraly 15 pages of crap on how I need to make an appointment with CHP to get the vehicle inspected and bring receipts to everything that went into the truck. I tell her I built the truck and kept it legal but now wanted to change it's status.  She basically repeats the same stuff 2 more times before I just say thanks and leave.

Well now she has totally bummed me out and I'm trying to figure out how much this is going to cost me and how much of a hassle it's going to be. I figured I'd do some more research and jumped back on the net. The concensus seems to be it can take as many as 3 trips to DMV before you get someone who is willing to help. Some guys say they had to junk the title (additional $50) and then re-instate it as an OHV. Others say they have had to do the full nspection and paper work route.

I figure what the heck so I make an appointment @ the Madera DMV (2 days out as opposed to 2 weeks @ Clovis) and figure I'll give it another shot. My appointment was @ 9:20. At 9:27, I had handed over my title, plates, signed my name,  paid $25, and walked out with a nice shiny new green tag. Glad I checked around before giving in to the pain of dealing with CHP.

Rambled a bit but figured it might help someone down the road.

I had problems at the Clovis DMV when I was getting my Class A lisence. You should file a complaint against her, it will go on her record. :spankbutt:
:nerv:                                                                                               :turtle: I love T.I.T.S. :turtle:

my favorite thing about the DMV is how, they without fail act like its a hastle to do anything there.
i think you have to pass the laziest reject test before you can be employed there.
its rediculous.
hold this. . .

I used to think that, until I started making appointments. Any time I have had to wait, they are obnoxious. Any time I have made an appointment, they are pleasant and very willing to help. My thought is the people on ht egeneral line are putting up with people who have been waiting for 45 mins. to an hour and the apt. people are helping people who made the effort to not have to wait in line and are generally in a much better mood themselves.

Yup they can be a pain. My Dodge is Green Stickerd and Regular registration. I got some odd looks and she had to go get help but I got it done.

Didn't I buy a tow hitch from you ?

I did the same thing here in L.B. The lady gave me a bunch of :pokinit: also. I asked for the supervisor and said this is for offroad only and will be trailered. Got m my tags right away. Now switching back to regular registration is a pregnant dog.
