Front Spring Hanger......again
« on: May 23, 2005, 08:52:18 AM »
I know this subject has been beat to death  :bash:.  You can do a search here and on Pirate and see posts about front spring drop hangers as far as you can see.  To me, it is pretty simple.  You can use the stock front spring hanger but it makes way more sense to just go ahead and do a drop.  2 -  2 1/2" seems to be the magic number.  From Roger Brown's site it seams that if you install rears up front with the springs hanging from the stock hanger and then pull the bolt out, the springs will fall to 2 1/2" below the stock location.  With that being the case...here is my question.  Why does Marlin sell a 1" drop instead of a 2" or 2 1/2" drop.  Does anybody know where I could pick one up?  I am in the middle of a build and will be approaching this point soon as I finish my axle build.  I know people fab them up themselves all the time.  I lack a welder and the necessary tools to do so.  I basically have a friend that is going to drive up when I get ready with his welder to help me weld everything on, so I would like to have everything ready to go to make quick work of it.  Any wisdom?  :king:

I would have to assume that shackle length and spring type play a major role.  the longer the shackle the bigger the front drop needs to be.  A side thought would be the huge leverage factor involved in a 2 1/2" drop hanger, as opposed to a 1" hanger.
