differentials?

ok i have a 91 toy with a 4cylinder i got a rear axel out of a 86 toy with a 4 cylinder will they both be the same gear ratio? the diff out of the 85 was out of an sr5 truck i believe will they work because if it will im making a lincoln locker?

instructions:
jack both tires off ground
rotate drive-line until tire does 1 revoloution
number of driveline rotations:1 tire revoultion = differential gearing (unimogs need not apply)

i should be able to tell by the number of teeth on the ring gear right ?

yup,,,count the ring and pinion and divide...should be the same,,but better check to be sure..I like counting them my self just to be sure..

check the codes on the firewall/drivers door   if they are the original gears ,  but counting teeth is fool proof

If they are both factory 4.11's like they should be , you can look at the end of the pinion and it should be painted pink. Toyota painted the end of the pinions as a code for different ratios. 4.11's are pink. That is an easy way to tell without pulling the diff apart to count the teeth.
