question about 22re

I just got one of those little valve cover breathers from auto zone.  my truck has a 22re.  there is a hose going to the valve cover to the efi thingy.  how do i install my valve cover breather?  do I plug the hole by the throttle body or will it work at all?

Breather Why do you want to run a breather? The efi is a closed system. You may have vaccum issues by putting a breather on a 22re

You do not want to run a breather at all. As said before, it's a closed system, and the MAF will not read correctly, and will cause all kinds of problems.

air that flows through the breather/pcv system is measured by the air flow meter.  If you install a valve cover breather, the air going into the pcv system will no longer be measured by the AFM, and will more than likely wind up with a lean condition. 

Also, why add another filter that you will have to clean?

I used to think that was a cool idea, but you would be better on building some kind of ducting to get colder air pointed in the direction of the air filter. Also try some hot water pipe insolution from Orchard Supply and wrap up your intake system to prevent the hotter ambient air under the hood from warming up your intake routing..

I believe either summit or Jeg's sells a product called "Cool Tape".  According to an article in an old four wheeler, it works.  Instead of insulating intake pipes, the cool tape is used to reflect engine heat.  Thats what gets you, is the heat from the engine compartment.  There is not much you can do about the air flowing through the intake.  22re's from the factory have air pickups right behind or next to the LH headlamp.  Can't get much cooler than that.

While we are on the subjuect, modifying the intake tube will be worthless on a 22re, due to the fact the Air Flow Meter is the main restriction in the intake tube, and you can't change it(not only is it a small hole, but the air has to force the door open in the meter).  Hence the reason car manufacturers switched to mass air flow sensors, as they flow more air, and measure air volume better than AFM's and MAP based systems.
