O.k. might be a stupid question.  I have a welded front end in an 85' runner, 4 cyl.  A friend of mine, running 36' Iroks testing in his yard blew up a birf just by looking at it with the same set up.  As a result, I am thinking that that is not the way to go.  I eventually want to replace both with lockers, but $$$$ is an issue right now.  Will the carrier for the front axle swap out with the carrier of the rear axle?  They are both 4 cyl. axles and that would give me a welded rear and an open front which I could get by with for the time being.  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, then forget the rear locker...trust me, you will like the welded rear.  I will never lock a rear axle again unless it is selectable...weld it or spool it and have fun.  The scrub isn't that bad anyway.

:fart: once and broke a birf... :dunno:
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Ran a welded in the rear of my 85 and too many street miles wears tires quickly when living in the mountains. Thought I had a limited slip in front ....broke a birf few weeks ago found a e-z locker in front.  Bought a Detroit for rear and a e-locker for front still waiting for gears for that so welded in front for now cant turn for #@!! .  it took about 4 hours to change front to back .   Go for it
