Gear Oil coming from the engine compartment??
« on: May 07, 2005, 06:17:07 AM »
Woke up this morning to see that there was gear oil all over in my engine compartment it looks like it is coming fron my breather hose which is about 4 ft long, is that even poossible for gear oil to get pushed up the breather hose??

have you been in deep water,  if so  go drain , flush, and refill all your gear boxes,  the water is pushing it out

havent been in deep water at all, the only thing i have done is light trail stuff with some hills.  It doesnt make sense why it would push fluid out that long of a hose when i havent even gone underwater

I havent noticed anything wrong with the diff. It was just barely installed last week, my guess is they had it overfilled and the oil expanded enough to come out the tube. but does anyone else have any ideas?? it has an ARB in it could that have anything to do with it??

I usually get fluild flowing out of my overflow tube if I travel at hi speeds and the hubs are locked or when I get lazy and don't disconnect my rear driveshaft when I flat tow.

Mine did this once, but it was contaminated with water, I also had a hub that didnt unlock so I think it churned things up. If you figure it out let us know

I have had this happen when I was running at high speeds on hot days during the summer.

it has an ARB in it could that have anything to do with it??

Seals in the ARB could go, and that would pressurize the diff and push oil up the breather.  You would probably also notice some lag in it locking up.  When my rear ARB did this it usually wouldn't lock til I'd rolled around a few miles and heated up the diff to a running temp.

I've had that heppen when driving with the front hubs locked over 55MPH so beware of that.

Well I talked to a couple of places here are their results:

1. With the ARB and my diff tilted upward slightly it changes the way the oil is thrown covers the breather hole, creates a positive pressure and syphons of my oil. to slve add another breather

2. The speed issue if i go over 55mph in 4 wheel drive then i get squirts

3. the ARB is leaking and pressurizes my diff.

I will have to take it out and figure which one it is. thanks for the help guys!
