Dont run toyota transfer cases 'cause the output shaft wont be able to hold up to the torque and it will snap.  You should run a Turbo 350 or 400 tranny with an atlas 4.3.  A little cheaper thing(I think) to do is get an NP 205 and a Klune-V so that you can crawl.  I hope to do that some day, accept with a 454 :muscles:.   :turtle:  :usa:

huh?  327s aren't really torque monsters compared to something like a 383, toyota cases should hold up fine as long as you aren't running nitrous or anything crazy  best idea is to put 23 spline inputs in though.

i'd run something like an SM465, super low 1st, cheap, and not an auto

The output shaft will hold up just fine with an auto.  I ran a pretty hot 350 in my 84 and the one thing I never had a wimper of trouble with was the t-case.  I ran welded on swampers and boggers rangeing from 35's to 39.5's and it was just fine.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

23 spine toy stuff is pretty strong,,and tire size and amount of throttle is really what will detremine what will bust..But for the most part there stout..

Should be fine with Toyota parts.  I agree 327s aren't know for torque.  Unless you get one that has decent heads on it, its not going to do much for horsepower either.  I used to have one in my Chevelle.  It was in the car when I bought it.  On the chassis dyno it made 218hp and 250 lbs/ft of torque.  Not very impressive numbers.   That's after I added a cam, headers, exhaust, intake, 4bbl carb.   It had horrible heads on it, smallest valves I've ever seen on a Chevy V8.  The car still ran 13.8-14.0 but that was all gear (4.10s with 26" tire) and a relatively light car, it was an weak motor for a V8.  It's not a bad engine, just not a torquey one.

I'd say run it if you can.  It will still have more torque than a 22r.  And it will sound cool too

Lane from the Pirates is running a d44 and a d60 and 38.5 swamps with a mostly stock 22re.  He has broken a lot of 21 spline output shafts and is not too hard on the throttle.  Im not sure how much stronger the 23 spline output is and I know of a few chevys running marlin 23 spline cases. Dont get me wrong, I love my marlin t case and probably wont break my output, but I would rather run something bigger like an NP205 or an Atlas when running a V8.   :turtle:  :usa:

I have a 69 camaro 327 in my little willys pickup that weighs 3200 pounds.  It has ported camelhump heads with 2.02 valves. edelbrock intake, carb, some headers and flows.  I have a sm465 4spd and was running 3:54 gears and 33" and it hauled ass.  Then I put 4:56 and 36"s and it was still fast till I got tired of blowing ring and pinions and put some 33" exterains and it is even faster now.  Lots of torque and lots of high end power.  Ps this truck is forsale if anyone is interested  $2800
