I have a 90 excab 22re 4x4, I was thinking of running my dana 60 front and 70 rear with 5.86 gears and 38.5-12.5-15 sx`s, is there anybody running this setup on there toy truck with the stock 22re.
If so, how well does it drive on the road, power, handling, weight?
Or should I just use a Fj80 front and a taco rear?
Thanks,
Scott

those dana axles are going to really weigh your rig down,  just do a sas  with a 84-85 front  with some bobbylongs and pre tacoma rear,   taco rear axle tubes arent as strong as the pretacoma
then use the 80 highpinion in the front,   alittle fender trimming ,  keep your lift as low as possible for stability   and you will be much happier,   5.29's and 36's

are you going to use this rig often on the street?  I'm up with the same dilemma and I can't figure out what I want to do under my rig.  One of my projects is a 350/350 swap on a 90 ex. cab and I've got the toy axles under it right now but want to make my rig into a killer wheeler.  not that I have anything against toy axles I just am worried about that much power going to my toy axles.  I currently have a 87 4runner though that is SAS'd with all toy gear.  it has a Marlin v6 electric locking rear 3rd and lockrite in the front with 5.29's.  My little 22re is pushing my new 37 toyos MT around quite well and my engine only has a Northwest Offroad header on and it does quite good with 240,000 original miles on the engine, but I do have dual cases which makes the little 4 run well at low speeds.  Like I said it all depends on what kind of wheeling in my opinion.  My runner doesn't see really serious rocks.  If it isn't your DD by all means do the swap.  If not use a v6 rear from a preTaco and a 85/pre front with a hi pinion front.  you'll like it.  Tell me what you decide to do.

79coyotefrg

gotrocks,  the onlything i can see that might fail from the 350 is the lockright  tri and find a hipinion elocker or go detroit truetrac     unless your really go wild with mods to the 350 and a heavy right pedal  the toy axlswill be fine

i know a guy here with one ,350/350 toy axles and tcase and hes been driving that sucker for about 6 years,   without a problem,   but i know he doesnt use full throttle in low range

So you are saying unsprung weight is a bad thing ? .  The axles are strong enough to take the weight  of the tires all they are gonna do is keep his butt on the ground better and wont roll over as easy..

I'm putting a 60/14 bolt under my truck with 4.56 gears, I'm also putting in a 4.3 Chevy V6.

If I were you I'd put your 60/70 under your truck, but if you use your 4 panger put 5.38 gears or lower in them.

Are you useing your 4cyl. I was wondering if I would feel the difference with the weight. I plan on narrowing mine so they are 1 to 2 inches wider on each side than the toy axles.

I'd do it... Well I'm getting components to do mine now. I have a D44 HP 8 lug I'm going to swap sides on the pumpkin. I want - need the full width for the hills we deal with here. I don't like how narrow the Toy axles are, even with wheel spacers; however, Toy axles are some tough ass axles.

I have a D60 HP kingpin also for my next project. It allfull heavy - two men and a boy to carry - but I've seen stock 22R - RE's pulling 2 1/2 rockwells, 44" rubber around and up some steep climbs. I'd say you should be OK with 60's but if it's a DD then I'd look for more power i.e. v-8

i had all the $ saved and parts picked out for a narrowed dodge 60 front(63'') and c&c 14 bolt rear(62''), but had friends who had to buy towrigs/trailers to get there trucks with 22re's and 5.86's up to the trails.

i took the $ and bought 'diamond axles'(63 and 61.5) and 30 spline longfields stuff. i have more than an inch and a half of additional clearance on 37's compared to my brothers 39.5 iroks on 60's.  i can drive to the trails(or even work) with 5.29's and dont get hung up on every little rock/stump in the middle of the trail.

I have the 3.0 v6; may as well be a 4cyl.  I have a 60 front an d14 bolt rear.  When the 5.38s are eventually relesed for the 14 bolt, I'll regear to that ratio.  I chose against narrowing mine.  If you are intersted in only a sligt increase in track width, I'd suggest leving them full-width and then running hummer double beadlocks.

I narrowed my Dana 60 2.5 inches on the driver side. That puts my front and rear at 66.5 inches

UNBREAKABLE

my front axle is a king pin off a dually and I'm running hummer beadlocks(no need for recentering) and 39" PitBull Rockers. My rear axle is the same width as my front WITH the dually spacers. For steering I'm running WFO HD Steering Arms. I also built disc brakes for the rear axle to get rid of the massive/heavy drum brakes.
