Who makes the best cam?
« on: Apr 29, 2005, 04:03:04 PM »
I got a new head and I want to put a little performance into it.  I know the 22re is  :stopit:  naturally weak.  I'm also considering TRD cams but what stage?

I have a DOA cam in my 22RTE.  Same cam for an 22RE.  Made a difference on low speed torque while still giving me more at high RPM too.

Plus I have passed a CA smog check 2 times with this cam.

if you want to crawl,  i would stay with somthing very mild  or with a stock cam,  if you want some power LC is the only way to go,

Yea, american v8 cams.  Everybody who I know that really knows toyotas or imports in general says the exact same thing too.  Stick with a company that specializes in your specific vehicle or make, ie; lc engineering, downey, nwor or the select other few who deal with toys.

On a similar note, I have an nos mikuni cam that I'm gonna run in one of my trucks, but I'm not totally sure if I should slap it in the 2 or 4wd.  Might hafta start a new thread on it to see......

I haven't broken mine yet, and I've cruised at 85 on the freeway.  Thinking back, I kinda remember snippin off the little tab on my 81 2wd so the needle could keep goin......not that I would speed though, that's just not right :shake:  :wink2:  :wink2:

the trd stage 1 is barely over the stock cam,  i see why you cant feel much

compareable with trd specs the stage2 LC cam would be a stage 4 TRD

I've heard/read good stuff about www.engnbldr.com. He's pretty specialized in Toyota 22RE stuff. I'd check out his wares and see what he can do for you.

What head do you have?
I've got the LCE "EFI Pro" cam...I like it a lot, but I want to get the Stage2 head and cam. I agree (not that it matters) with the rev range...if you've got really low gears, that's where you're going to be running most of the time.
