Looking to swap in Toy V8 drivetrain into Tacoma
« on: Apr 27, 2005, 08:26:34 AM »
I believe Im going into unchartered territory as my searches have resulted in zero results.
I blew my stock 3.4L V6 motor. I have found prices of about $5600 for a new motor to be installed in replacement of my stocker.

So since all this surgery is about to take place, I would rather squeeze in a Toy V8, auto trans, and xfer case if humanily possible,....
oh this will be on my daily driver.

First I dont have either the V6 or V8 motor yet so any recommendations on where to find and prices will be helpful.

Second, other than a tight engine bay, I am concerned about the direction of the oil sump pan, as it must be a rear sump for my SAS. Any other issues you can think of off the bat?

Maybe someone else can help you with sway specifics but how about the new Taco 4.0 V6.  Might be harder to find but I'm sure someone's wrecked one by now.  They came in the new 4runners also which have been out a little while.

Lyle just forget what I said about the 350 on Pirate. I think swaping a newer V8 in is goin gto be a real PITA Just the wiring will be a nightmare. I think thats the main reason no one has done it yet. Wait I remember somewhere on the TTORA board on delphi that someone might hvae done it. I think it was some Highschool shop calss instructor or something.

All I can help you with is that we tried to put a iFORCE into a FJ40, but its way to tall. It's much taller than the 3.4l and its not only taller, but it also takes up much more space then even a Chevy 350.

But don't let these few responses slow ya down. Be the first V8 Tacoma in the world!!!!

I just bought a 4.0 1UZ that came out of a 98 Lexus GS400.  Supposed to have 300hp. :attention:   Swapping it out for my 96 2.4 a/t.       Now I just need a 5 speed trans.
