You'll need to add washers to the inside of the shackle beside the spring being the stock hangers for the rear springs are about 1/2" wider than the springs.   Dont worry about having enough slip on the rear driveline.  The stock slipyoke should be more than enough to compensate for your available travel.

Thanks Peps! yeah I have been working on this thing non stop since friday, Im almost done!  yee Haaaw!!! Selling the toy???  Midlife crisis!!!

Thanks WT, i wasnt sure if I was seeing things or what, Ill throw a few washers in there, I really like the steel bushings from the sas kit, I may call em up and ask for a few since they seem to be the right width.

Im off to the driveline shop tomorrow hopefully. I had a weird 1am idea come to me.  Why not use a dual cv rear driveshaft??? Wouldnt this eliminate any posability of a vibration??      :headscratch:

Well I havent updated this thing in a while. I basically made a suicide run to Alaska with a recently built up truck!!!

I finished cleaning up a few welds etc.... some wiring, installed a gps etc.....

Driveshafts were sort of a nightmare, I dropped them off a week prior to picking them up and I am still waiting for my front d-shaft.

I basically had about 20 minutes to test drive the truck after the SAS, Rear perches, dual cases etc.... I literally bolten in the driveshaft, drove around the block, checked torque on everything and packed up and started driving to AK!

I must say I was very very nervous most of the way up, but the truck drive quite nicely and I am very impressed. I stopped every now and then checked to make sure everything was still holding up and 3,300 miles later no issues to speak of.

The bilstein shocks are AMAZING. I was hauling A$$ down the Alaskan highway with a loaded down truck and it was soaking up bumps other trucks were catching air on!

If any of you ever get a chance to drive to AK I higly recommend it, its the most amazing road trip I have ever been on. There are simply amazing things to be seen along the way. I encountered several moos, bear and a few buffalo!

Here are some pics of the truck after.

It was funny driving this thing through Canada, they just dont have many SAS's or lifted yotas up there I suppose. A few truckers stopped and checked it out "Ive heard about them crawlers but never seen one up close before..."

Here in Anchorage I get a lot of thumbs up from people, the Jeep guys dont wave back     :dunno:

The truck is entirely Marlin. Marlins sas kit up front, 5" springs in the rear, they do sit a little high up, but im guessing they will settle in after some actual wheelin. I thought the 600 lbs+ of stuff in the back would break in the rear springs a but but it did not. I think its a good sign, since they should resist sagging as time goes by. The ride is a little rough, but I have only been driving it for a week like this, and on the horribly potholled roads of AK.

The truck actually handles better than it did with the IFS, I can negotiate turns easier, and steering effort actually seems lighter which might be due to the crossover steering.

Im going to be feeling the pain of shipping charges when I order a bumper from badland bumpers. I cant wait to see that shipping charge!

Unfourtunately I no longer have a garage to use, so I will have to use the auto hobby shop on the base I work at (Elmendorf)

Damn... I'm with you on the garage, we are actually in the middle of building one as we speak. We are getting the floor poured on Monday, it also has infloor heating.. mmmmm.

I wonder if there is a company in Canada that sells Marlin's parts. I really like the quality of his stuff, but I might just have to suck up the shipping and exchange rate :headshake:

How do the 4.88's run with the... guessing a 6cyl? I have a set of 5.29's that I was going to use in my 82' Toy but I sold it and not have a 3.0l.

Well I drove around for a while with 33"s and 4.88's in my 81, but it reved a little high on the freway. I have a 4cyl, its simply a great engine that you can enhance enough to match the power of the 3.0. I was debating v-6 but many members on the board will tell you to go the way of the cyl. I plan on getting an LC engineering stroker motor as soon as this one gets tired.

I was really suprised with this engine to be honest, on some mountain passes on the AK highway there are 8% and even 10% grades and it did fairly well even though I had to hit third gear. 5.29s are bit weaker pinion but I have not heard of too many guys breaking them.

Heated garage floor!  you can drop your pop tart on the floor and it wil still be warm when you find it later!

Thanks guys! The only problem im having right now is a slight pull to the right when i hit the brakes, but its really weak. I may need to bleed the brakes again, or the springs are so high right now its creating a bit of a steep angle on the draglink, since there is a bit of bumpsteer as well.
Im really suprised at how well it handles when the bed is empty, especially without a sway bar of any kind, may be the Bilsteins helping out the roll control.

Glad those springs worked out for ya, im curious about how well they flex.

This no garage thing really sucks, motivated me even more to try and buy a house asap. People in apartments give you loks when you just check your oil under the car port!

     My rear locker no loner leaks air, it seems it was a simple matter of air line routing when installing the third. If you leave any sort of that copper line hanging out, and it touches the housing after install, it will thingy, the air collar sideways and cause a leak. We shall see how it does in sub zero temperatures this winter.

I will try and get some wheelin pics up asap.

Thanks Jim, I appreciate all advice you have given me!

95- glad I can help! it took me about a week to finish everything up, I didnt have any help so it was sorta slow going. Well my freind top helped with some torching, but I recommend saving your money and doing it yourself. besides the waiting list is EXTREMELY long for an SAS. When I called it was more than a few months. The guys are the shop are just really busy these days.
Im now living the condo life, which is no fun since I dont have a garage, im so used to going out into the garage and tinkering here and there, but now I have to actually write stuff down and plan ahead! Immagine that......  Its my daily driver and so far in Anchorage I get a lot of stares, not too many lifted yotas compared to the Jeeps. My next big savings account drainer will be a set of front and rear badland bumpers.  Yeee haaaw.   Im having a hard time finding local 4x4 clubs, im just gonna have to flag someone down i suppose.

Thanks for the kind words guys....

Luke...got your pm.  :welcome: to Alaska. Stop by and see us anytime. JP will give you the 4x4 hook up. There are some great trails and places to run up here. Like I said....got snorkle? That's funny, leaving notes on Jeep windows. There are a few of them up here. I guess they have never had a Toyota :shake: We'll give you the good guy price on your OE parts too. And there are some good fab shops up here also. Be well :beerchug:
Take a deep seat and hang on!
