Topic: V8 into a T100

So, I was thinking. When I get my SAS done and my tuck starts looking like a real truck I will probably start working on the motor. My first though was to put a supercharger on a new motor, than add some headers and exhaust and call it good. I think this would all run me about $4000, if I get a used motor. So the question is, what other motor would you guys put in a T100? I would like to keep the 5 speed but I know that could be a problem with some motors. This brings me to my next question. Do you guys know if a Toyota V8 would work with a 5 speed? I’m afraid that the computer might also control the transmission and would adversely effect the operation of the motor. My other choice would be either a TPI 350 or a 454 with a NV4500. I’m just brain storming, so any input is appreciated.

Yeeah put a 454 in it   whats wrong with the stock moter with a few up grades :dunno:Unless its going to be a lifted ricerocket with grafics and all when your puttin that much money into a truck 95% chance its a pavement queen or asfalt pounder.

Hey that hurts my original motor has 220k on it so when I decide to put the $2400 supercharger on it, I'll have to replace it. a used motor will runn me $1000-$2000, so i thought an engine swap would be more economical. I really want tthe Toyota V8 but Id have to look at the computer programing to see if I can use it with a 5 Speed.

if you drive it every day i highly recommend not putting a 454 in it.  i had a chevy with a pumped 454 in it for my only vehicle for about 6 years.  the gas just about killed me.  lots of fun though.

as for the transmission i have no idea about the electronics but if you pump up that 454 or 350 it is possible that you will send that stock toy tranny to the promise land.  

of course you have to stomp on the gas like i did when i shot gunned the input shaft on my turbo 400.

$900 for a used toyota 3.4, $2000 for a long block and $1300 for a short block. Where??

I'm still working out weather my Toyota 5-speed can handle the extra 200 HP of the Chevy 350 5.7L I just finished puting in.  It has granaded it's self once and Toyota is rebuilding it under warrantee right now.  The claim it was never designed to handle this extra 200 HP.  I pointed out to them that there are lots of companies out there producing adapter kits for this.  If it doesn't work, these companies wouldn't still be in the bussiness of producing these products.

 While the transmission was surviving, it is a great set-up!  All the power you could ever want with all the gear selection possibilities to suit any condition!  I spent $850 for a crate 350 and approx. another $300 in motor mount adapter, pan, valve covers, intake, carb. and headers for it.  All the parts are available online.  See my web listed above...

It all depends on the way you drive it. Unless it is a G-series, then I think no matter how you drive it will not last. W56's are OK, but I strongly urge you to run a Turbo R151F transmission. Strongest 4WD 5Spd Transmission Toyota has ever offered. I think I remember Marlin telling me once that the 5th in an R-series is as strong as like 2nd or 3rd in a W- or G-series. All for the same length, Pretty amazing.

Does this R151F tranny have any electronics associated with it that my rig wouldn't have since it's originally a '82 SR5 longbed?  Since I've rebuilt it into a '72 Land Cruiser it no longer has any of the original wiring.  I had to wire the whole project one wire at a time.

 Also, I still have the origninal '82 5-speed w_transfercase laying in my back yard.  If I were to order this tranny were talking about, would my old tranny be accepted for core?

Oh boy, if your talking about a LC then disregard my post!! I did not realize, sorry. R-series must be way to long for you 40-series guys..

   Apparently you didn't fully read my last post .  My LC is built on a '82 truck chassis.  Also if you'd visit my web page you would see that fabrication is no problem. 8)  The problem is finding a bullet proof enought 5-speed!

Since everything seems to be up in the air, why not stuff a small 4 cyl Cummins , a NV4500 , and an Atlas x-fer :up: in it and beat it with no worries. You'll have loads of power and strength; probably get decent mileage too. :up:

Well its a 5 spd so it must be from a Hilux.

The only wiring you would have to be conserned with is the reverse back up switch. I think two wires need to modified, that's it. The R-series is 4" inches longer than the Cast Iron 5spd trans that you have in your back yard, so consider that when looking at your drive line lengths.

FYI, the R-transmission is still offered today on a 3.4L S/C Tacoma 4WD with factory warrentee intact, so you should have no worries running it behind a V8.

About the core, we have used R-trannys but Marlin will only sell them after they are rebuilt by him. And the way we do core is we charge you the standard core charge for a R-series transmission, and refund what ever value for the core trans you are returning. So Lets say I charge you $10 as a core, but your older 82' is only worth $3 dolars to me, then I will only give you credit towards your core charge of $3.

To tell you the truth, I don't know where to find it. I've read about it done on a few CJ's but I've never seen a writeup.   I've day dreamed about doing it in a toy pickup for fun when I have a lot of money to burn. I think it has a lot of potential. Imagine enough power to make a V8 look weak, without too much weight, and a stout drivetrain backing it. Running the stock gearing in the pumpkins probably would be ok, if not ideal. I'll look around for docs and let you know what I find. :up:
