Huhwhye, kneedownnate, need a Motorcycle Opinion
« on: Apr 19, 2005, 11:11:03 PM »
Don't know if you guys have any experience with Aprilia's, but I was thinking about getting a RS-250 or even a RS-50 this summer.

With high gas prices and the ease of parking a bike at college, I will be getting a bike this summer, period.

My friend's had a couple of Ducati's, his most recent being a Monster 900. I want to stay with Itialian bikes, regardless of any increase in maintence and cost of repairs, and I was thinking about a Aprilia RS250-

More pics:
http://cinnamon.com/~bandy/2strokes/pictures/rs250.html
http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/4542/rs25098.jpg

Also a RS50 would be sweet, but that might be a bit small. Yes, 50cc:

Another pic:
http://www.getyourrideon.com/bikes.cfm?action=detail&bikeid=187

Don't be fooled by the 50cc, my friend says it will smoke his Ducati 900cc out of the hole, but the RS50's speedo only goes up to around 80 MPH so I think it's top speed is somewhere around 80-90 MPH, which would be great for me, a beginer, someone who's not exactly looking for top speed here but just a cool bike to ride around and save on time and gas. And these bikes just look too cool!!

I've seen some low mileage RS50's going for around $2000-3000, and the RS250s go for more like $4000-7000 for the older models.

Anyhow, I am wondering if you guys have any friends who own an Aprilia and how they like them?

Thanks
BigMike

If you're looking for something cheaper than $2000, then its going to be old and high mileaged (+15k)... Unless you can find a great deal of course :gap:

I was thinking about a Suzuki SV650 .........

......... which is a bit more down tempo from the Aprilia, but it's nearly the same price as the RS50, or a RS125, but without any of the coolness, not to mention the handling..

I recently was out driving and I came across a 99 Ninja 500R ..........

Another pic:
http://www.kawasaki.com/flash/uploadFiles/k_05_ex500d_ac_2_800.jpg

........ And he wanted $2300 because it had been dropped on the right side, but that bike just doesn't do it for me.

Anyone else have any suggestions for around $2000?

I don't know about ya BD ,but I don't want a cruiser bike that's for sure. :smack:

mike im with ya here. i need something thats cheap as well in the $2000 range. vw rabbit diesal are hard to find. the problem i see with the rs 50 is; for me i would need to run it 30 miles, 60 round trip at 70mph, if it tops out at 80mph. thats seems ruff for that little bike.

6'6"! :thud: Don't listen to me then!

Harley bikes can kiss my :moon: I am so sick of them and everyone who has owned one says they are pieces of crap. :blah:

I like the nakedness of a cruiser bike, and I don't like so many plastic panels covering everything up like on a GSX, so I'm going for an in between look like on a Ducati, or the SV650 (how half is naked and the top is painted), but for the price the Aprilia RS50 sounds good to me

Man, I've been looking around for a top speed spec on that bike and I cant find anything about it......

Here's a pic of the RS50 speedometer:

But maybe you can find a bike that has a stroker kit, like this one that has been upgraded to a 73cc.

So you rode a SV650 and it's a bit powerless? What other bikes have you ridden? Any others from about the same engine size/class?

I've ridden both, that harley is HEAVY! It was fun and I thought I'd like a cruiser better but that little light weight suzuki is pretty fun, probably fun enough to get me killed! Both my dad and my bro have been down - 2x for my bro.

Check out the vids at sacnuts.com - it's nuts - especially the guys that bail at full speed - OUCH. I value my kids and my life too much to buy a bike right now - it's not you that's the problem - it's the cars that don't see you..

Honestly I was blown away that I could get from zero to sixty before I had a chance to say zero to sixty. I thought it kicked ass but my bro rides a fair amount and hit bike is the smallest by far. I think that's good - easier to handle. If you want to ride wheelies it might be a little on the low side - I'm talkin outa my arse - I don't know anything about bikes. Maybe I can get him to post ;)

I'll tell ya what, it will keep you in shape! Someday I'll put that class to use :(

BTW, I highly suggest it - well worth the $$ IMHO

The thing I can't stand about the STUPID HARLEYS AND CHOPPERS is:

1) they have to drive past my house nearly EVERYnight at 2 am and floor it and they are well over the 105 decibel legal exhaust limit for Automobiles, so I cant figure out how they can get away with it.

ITS SO ANNOYING TO ME I CANT STAND IT.

2) I've been told by a former coworker that the quality on Harleys are a bit below average and that they could do better.

On the other side of this, one of my favorite TV shows is American Choppers. I think Choppers are highly custom and look REALLY SWEET! It's just that I HATE having to listen to one 10 times a day here in Fresno. I can hear one a block away while in my truck with my windows up and driving. I mean come on, its only cool to about 5% of the people in the city. Ridiculous in my opinion :twocents: :respekt:

loud pipes save lives

Sounds stupid but now that I have family that rides I watch a LOT more on the road and I don't mind the loud pipes - it makes you aware. No need to be stupid in the middle of the night but that's another story.

I must have had 5 bikes pass me on the way home sharing lanes today. Mike, YOU NEED to go to the supercross at laguna seca! It's nuts - you won't believe how many bikes are in town that weekend..

I'm not sure if that's what it is really called but it is quite an experience..

yeah, like Brandon said, no reason to be dicks about it.  We used to have a neighbor who would come home from a late night shift at about 2am, and cut his engine and coast into the neighborhood, cause his bike was real loud.  A lot of people dont think about it.

American Choppers is awesome!!  I think that is incredible what they do with their skills.

As for taking down a bike, as long as you have the proper gear on, you've got a good chance of surviving, and if you dont do stupid stuff.

Granted, I get that alot from "adults", but that's not gonna stop me from riding :gap:

I don't think bikes are dangerous, the accelerate and brake MUCH faster than cars - it's the cars that are dangerous.

then again scaring the carp outa a car when you are right next to it isn't exactly a good idea either - makes ya swerve but then you just might swerve the wrong way..
