New here =)
« on: Jun 13, 2024, 04:48:38 PM »
Hello all! I’m new to this forum and forums in general. So if I need to do anything to be welcomed please let me know.

A little about me, I live in colorado and own a 1979 Yota pickup. Came stock with the 20r, blew that so i decided to swap in a 04 4.3 vortec. It’s my first engine swap and project car, I love the thing so so so much. It’s not pretty but it can crawl for sure! Some things done to it are, 4.70 gears in the t-case, w56 trans, spartan locker in the front full spool in the rear, 4.88 gears. Chevy 63s and 6 inch springs in the front. Mickey Thompson MT 35x12.50 15. I eventually plan on mating the rf1a to a twin sticked dana 300, high pinion 3rd in the front and taco v6 housing in the rear and much much more. The 4.3 isn’t swapped in yet but that will be happening soon :) I completely rebuilt the top end of the 4.3 and churched it up by painting it and cleaning it really nice :) I do have some questions about the swap which I why I made an account to this forum.

Hello Tilted79,

Welcome.  :beerchug:

Your post reads like you are a serious DIYer.

The V-6 Vortec swap is my first choice for a “practical” and increase in HP with reliability.

The interesting thing about V-6 Vortec is you can build it nearly anyway you want it and its every bit as reliable as any Toyota engine.

My desirable choice is a Chevy 5.3L V8 LM4 Aluminum block.

Any Chevy engine swap is going to be a challenge.  Space is limited.

The other issue is a Chevy V-6 Vortec is going to weigh a little over 100 lbs. more than a 22RE, so that extra weight on the front end will be noticeable.

Staying with Toyota.. I’d just swap in a 22RE or 22R stroker.

There is probably a good number of posts and threads on a V-6 Vortec swap on a number of Toyota forums.

The guys I knew that did engine swaps always said “There’s a lot more to it than you think.
Your budget should have some padding, and you’d better be a good fabricator or have a buddy that is.”

Please keep us updated on your project.
