82 4x4 pickup Marlin L52 HD

When in reverse there's resistance and the resistance feel increases when I turn the wheel. The hubs are in the "free" position. All wheels and drive lines turn freely when I put the truck on stands.

Hi, I got a L52HD about 12 years ago. Recently my local mechanic sent the L52HD to a local shop for repair. (possible mistake) Anyway it came back to me popping out of 1st gear. They fixed that. Wondering if I need to send the transmission to Marlin for a do over for the reverse resistance? Or could it be something other than a transmission or T case problem.
