Newbie bro. Got my first Toyota two years ago in Puerto Rico. '87 single cab 4x4 semi-flat bed. I started a thread in YotaTech (title El Jibarito) and kept seeing threads go dark... then I stumbled on MarlinCrawler and found the layout and discussion to be higher quality. Anyways, after 11 posts I'll attach photos of where I'm currently at in this build. Long story short, great truck, not too concerned previous owners, horrible sound in all gears (was told bad piston pin) =equals= LOTS of maintenance and rock auto magnets, eventually finding used engine from a 4Runner for $150, sent to machine shop bored .40 over, new everything except oil pump, crank, rods, cam, valves, few other misc items. Maybe I should've created 11 posts out of all that? Today I'll finish cleaning and assembly then maybe drop it in before dark.
Could be bad, but it ain't.

Pretty sure I've creeped on your build. First ones I read through were H8PVMT and toybrota. Good stuff

After 4 days I got the new engine to fire last night and it's running great, I need to adjust timing and the carb a little more. One thing I may have screwed up, this is my first rebuild, is the throw out or pilot bearing. The pilot is new and a Toyota nachi brand and was installed flush on the crank and spun smoothly after. When I was cleaning around the engine bay and bell housing, a clip on the throw out bearing came loose and I put it back on, not 100% if I put it back correctly. Anyways there's a nice rattle/chatter when I get to the top of each gear and goes away when I engage the clutch and shift to the next gear then reappears for a second until I accelerate  :smack:
