I have built several Jeeps starting with a TJ and several JKs, my own and friends.  But a few years ago I decided to try something different and bought a well built 2002 Tacoma Truggy. I would guess it was built around 2007 give or take.  Its a 3.4 auto that has a completely plated frame front to back.  Its running a D60 front and a 14 bolt rear, lockers in both.  It has dual cases - an Inchworm 2.28 and a stock Toyota case also a 2.28.  I don't know anything about the stock case, not even sure if it came with the truck or was swapped in from another truck.  I hope there is a part number stamped somewhere are the case so I can identify it.

This past weekend I broke something in one of the transfer cases as I have lost all forward and reverse movement.  It did drive forward for a few feet after the break, so I don't think it was an input or output shaft as that should have left it dead in the water immediately.  But who knows.  I plan to tear it down next week when I can get it into my friend's shop.  But doing research now to see what my options are.

If its the stock toyota case, it should just be a matter of sourcing a used one and upgrading it as much as I can.  I need to learn what my options are.  I guess step one is identifying exactly what toyota case it is.  Not sure.

If its the Inchworm that bit the dust, what are my options as they are out of business and not made any more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds a lot like my rig :)

If it's dual cased those are going to be RF1A gear driven transfer case. They won't be stock as the 2007 would have some chain drive case. Marlin sells adapters if it was the adapter than went out, but they're usually out of stock. You can try Trail Gear or the used market.

Here's some info on those cases https://www.marlincrawler.com/java/gearvschain.html
