Full-width 1/4 elliptic

after having my truck for a few years starting from stock moving up to alcan springs and 35s i've decided to go full width w/a rear 1/4 elliptic setup and orbit eyes in the front.  i've been runing a stock yota axle in front w/a D60 in the reaer for about 6 or 7 months w/the alcan springs.  i decided to get to work on the truck after breaking my stearing (wasn't runing crossover yet cause i knew i was going danas).  i've just about got the front together and was woundering if any one out there has done or knows how the best way to do a 1/4 elliptic setup.  here are some pics so far. :driving:

most of us have never done a quarter eliptic setup so, no.  i am sure you will have much better luck if you went over to www.pirate4x4.com and searched for 1/4 eliptic tech.

What width axle's are you running, what did you get them off of(Chevy, dodge, ford?) and what kind of backspacing do you have on your wheels?  looks good, can't wait to see some finished pics.

thats not off a ford, all fords are drivers side drop, and all chevs are passenger side drop, but i dont remember on the dodge, i think they are jus like the chevs

Toyjoeta     the axles are full width.  There has been no shortening or lengthening and the wheels are just a set of ten inchers, no back spacing.  However I am going to put 1.5" spacers in the rear (D60) and a 1.5" spacer on the pasenger side of the front axle (D44)


Scheid    youre right about the Fords and Chevs but the Dodge varys on certain years.  Often some people will actually take the Ford front end and cut and swap the axle tubes to put the diff on passenger side to have the high pinion.  I have a buddy who did that with a Ford D60 and I will probably do it the first time I break the D44.  Thats why I havent put too much money into the 44.  The only reason Im using it is because I got it for free when one of ny buddies got rid of his blazer.  Hees said to take anything I wanted before it went to the junk yard and I noticed that it hac flat top knuckles so I thougt Ild save a few bucks and snag that for the time being.

right on, Y are u adding a 1.5 spacer jus to the passenger side??

i am adding only one spacer to the front to even out the look of the axle from the front view.  Because the leaf perch is actually part of the diff you cant center the axle under the truck, so the axle sticks out about an 1" or 2.  And if youve ever driven behind someone with fullwidth on a yota it looks like the truck is dog trackin.

unbreakables axle are ton and a 1/4 cucv 60 and 70 with dually spacers, hes real wide, in the front at the widest point of his tires hes roughly 93 inchs. his rear is semi triangulated 4 link his wheels are 16.5x10x2.5

oh yea buy the way, ford diff is driver, chevy is pass., and up till 93 dodges are to then they went to driver

oh i didnt kno that, thatkz 4 tellen me cus im gona do a 44 or a 60 some day

if youre going to pay for the axles i would highly reccommend paying for the 60.  dont waste your money on a 44.  theyre not even as strong as a stock yota axle.  the only reason im wasting my time on one is because i got it for free and i really really wanted to go full width.  putting full width on my truck was the first thing i had ever planed even before i bought my truck.

looking awesome keep it up.  I might have missed it but what are you doing with the front suspension, and since you said you didn't go crossover because you were putting danas in it well what are you going to do with steering as well I'm trying to get info on what I"m going to do.  I have a AGR Saginaw ram assist that I want to put under my truck but I'm not sure how and if it'd work out.  I know marlin did it on there formula truck but in a 90 ex cab I don't know how'd it'd work out if I was planning on keeping my radiator up front

Looks aside, does having the spacer on just the passenger side create steering issues?  Seems like having the wheel subject to their own individual geometry opens up a can of worms if used as a driver on the road.  Maybe I'm just paranoid.  Let us know if this approach has been proven to work or what the issues are if you know.  Thanx.

the front leafs are AOR's orbit eyes.  for the steering on the 44 im going to do crossover w/ram assist.  i just didnt want to spend the money on the crossover for the yota axle, and after popping my drag link out a few times and then finally ripping the arm off the knuckle i decided to just redo everything.  ive almost finished the linkage for the rear, but ill post in a couple of days.
