How important is clamp load really??
« on: Apr 08, 2005, 10:54:36 AM »

Guys,

I was wondering how important it really is to stay below the 1600# clamp load on a clutch?  I hear if you go above it will destroy:

- slave cylinder
- crank bearings

Nothing we want for a little more clutch performance ...

But is this really that serious? How much more load can the 3l tolerate? Would 2000# be acceptable?

Any advise appreciated :)

Matt

This is just my opinion on performance clutches.

There is nothing better than just a stock replacement clutch.  The last time I put a clutch in I "upgraded" to a centerforce which was suposed to have more clamp load or holding power or some stupid chit like that.  Anyway its no different than any other clutch, it just costs twise as much.

no its way diffrent, the centerforces are the best clutch, they are for high HP, u cant tll the diff in ur toy BC u only have 100 hp, and that cant even make a centerforce slip

my hybrid will roast a stock clutch in a month,   the 1200lb marlin clutch will spin te tires on pavement with no slippage at all.

the centerforce is only stock clampage at take off,  it only builds clampage at HIGH RPM's :smack:  if you have  big tires and a strongmotor the 1200 or 1600 is perfect,
i wouldnt go with anything ovr 1600#   theres realy no need
i used to roast a stock clutch in no time,  at red lights i would let the clutch out,  start moveing and even tho the clutch was fully engaged the hybrid would make it slip like a open diff with bald tires on wet mud :tantrum:

with the 1200 and 32's i leave 2 solid black marks :flamer:

centerforce would be ok for a turbo engine maybe but marlins clutches or anything with 1200 or above clampage is good,  stock pressure is only 800lbs
