I have never really wanted to and generally don't delete threads or posts, but I thought that engine thread was really beginning to miss the mark of what I was trying to do.  My original intent was not to debate or rate parts suppliers, so that would be #3. Off Topic.

Earlier I had deleted my first "Pinky" engine thread because I knew it was going to take so long to get it going it wasn't relevant. So that was #2. Unnecessary.

I will say I think cleaning up junk is good to a point.  Whenever I read much on Pirate I get distracted by the flaming and insults to the point that a lot of the tech gets lost or I simply loose patience with all the garbage.  A good tech related thread should, I believe, read like well thought out magazine article with a little interaction here and there.  It should not look like a shoutbox conversation.

I'm missing something, what got deleted?

H8PVMNT

I have a rebuild thread that I sent into a tail spin by making some doubtful comments about the origin and unknown to me quality of some parts and started kind of a friendly debate.  Nothing wrong with friendly debate, but I was really shooting for an assembly with a bunch of good instructional photos and to keep track of labor time and expenses on a tight budget with scrounging.  I ended up cleaning up my text and then discovered I could delete other posts, so I edited anything that got off track.

Not sure if there are any others.

I don't see what's wrong with that. I thought you could also lock your own thread on here to stop other replies.

I have always been forthcoming about deleting off topic or other posts in my threads if I see the need.  It is the right of the o.p. if they see fit, and they don't really owe anyone an explanation.  I have seen my own posts disappear from threads on this and other sites, which bugs me a little, mostly cause I am a post sleeper...
