oh crap
« on: Jul 25, 2017, 07:14:06 PM »
SOOOO.... I have been out of the modifying my Toyota scene for a little while but I have continued to own them. With starting my own company time is not something I have allot of right now. As of right now I have a 97 runner sr5. Custom rock sliders, rear bumper and soon to be a front. When I bought the runner I was told it just got out of the shop getting the front end fixed. WELLLLLLLL lies    :maddest: I have put a bunch of money into the front end trying to get it right.... well finally I took it to a shop that "Specializes" in difficult front end cases. well after a week in the shop (they are very busy) I found out that I am looking at about another $1600  :shocking: to get if fixed right. So just a rough tally that would be roughly $2800 into the front end. Well that is more than I paid for it. So I figure I have a couple options:

1- drop the $1600 into it and be done
2- total chaos kit that is about $3500 (with me installing it)
3- SAS; this one poses some problems
  a. do I change t-cases and run Toyota axle
  b. do I just splurge and run a diamond
  c. run JK axles (I can pick up a set of non rubbi for $400)
  d. just take my time and look for a waggi front
4- scrap the entire thing

Now some more info for you;
the runner shows 340000miles but I have documented 160k engine trans t-case and it runs amazing. the body has garbage paint but it is almost perfectly straight. The inside is almost perfect.

So these are the options I am looking at I thought maybe all of you could help me decide. This is a kinda daily driver (I drive my service truck about 40% of the time) The most "Wheeling" it would see is to the camp site, to my shooting range and maybe a LIGHT trail ride with the family.

If one of your options is to spend $3500, I would put it on AutoTrader, take the money and buy another vehicle.

There are some good deals out there on used vehicles.

The issue I have is I cant sell it knowing what is wrong, and if I do find a buyer they will NEVER pay over 1g out of it and I would rather keep it for that

Sounds like it would be more economical to fix it yourself.

If you can install the total chaos kit yourself, what is wrong with the front that you can't repair?  Was the $1600 parts and labor, or just the parts?

If it were I, I would fix it and wheel it as is, a buddy runs a 98 with 35's, cut fenders, dual ARB's, and wheel it on the Rubicon, and Fordyce creek, without issues.
'90 black X-cab mod'd 3.0, 33's/4.88's, rear ARB, custom bumpers, sliders, safari rack, etc.
'91 Blue X-cab 22re, 35's/5.29's,Truetrac front, ARB rear, dual cases, and custom Safari flatbed, bumper, interior.
