I say make them an offer of like $2,500 and be willing to go up to maybe $3,000 if you have to and you really want it. Really great deals require patience. Every few years I come across something for just a few hundred bucks that is almost a runner and takes almost no effort to get going. They seem to have to be immobile at the time of sale to be really cheap though.
Someone with an '85 probably knows it's kind of special just because it's an '85.
