My buddy is about to do a SAS on his '98 taco , 3.4 v6 5spd. I know that everyone uses a d44 from a wagoneer, but he insists on using a '79-'85 toyota front axle.

Here's my thoughts , tell me if I'm wrong. I have an R150 & t-case with only 50K miles from a '90 model 3.0. His taco has 195K miles. If we swapped the bellhousing from his 3.4 taco R150 on to the 3.0 R150 he would have a low mileage tranny and solve the problem of the d'shaft being on the wrong side. Will this work??

I know the chain drive t-case is junk, but this truck will only see mild trails so strength is not an issue.

To make the front width (55'') match the rear (61") I was thinking of using FJ60 rotors and IFS hub body's with spacers between them , like the kit that sky-manufacturing sells. This would widen it to 58" + 1'' wheel spacers = 60".

What other problems should we expect with this swap? Thanks  :beerchug:

If he insists on the toy axle, he can do what my buddy did...Have the axle retubed to move the pumpkin over and convert to IFS disc brakes to match the width of the rear axle.  This is a lot of extra labor and money when he could just go D44.   :screwy:
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

If it was mine I'd go with the d44 too , but like I said he insists on using a toy axle. I'm just trying to help him all I can with whatever he decides.

I still need to know if the 3.0 R150 will work behind the 3.4. Also will the 3.0 t-case bolt up to a Taco r150? does anyone know if this will work?

This sounds like a job for BigMike...or Marlin.
Why does he want to pull apart a perfectly good drivetrain??   :hammer:

I thought I herd Marlin was making an adapter to mate a Gear t-case to the Taco tranny. I could have dreamed that when I still had my Taco though.
