Light weight dirt bike trailer.
« on: Jul 17, 2016, 11:19:42 PM »
Picked up this Nuway boat trailer for $ 100

Removed the old deck and winch mount.

Loaded the bike up to determine tongue weight, balance and axle relocation.

Removed the rusty old fenders and made up some aluminum fenders with
stainless tail light brackets.

Added a  length of flatbar for additional deck strength.

1/8" Aluminum Deck.

Covered the front section with 3/32" aluminum plate.

Had these sturdy shelf brackets in the junkpile, should work great for a wheel chock/spare wheel mount. will add a few straps to the sides for extra strength.

1¾" x 40" length of Telespar as an anchor point for the front tie downs.

Wheel chock in place.

Lateral supports for the wheel chock/spare wheel mount.

The trailer, bike and ramp only weigh 595lbs.

Pivoting Ramp, Stabilizing Leg for loading/unloading bike, and extra lateral support for the front tie down bar.

Added extra frame support to the front tie down bar.
2¾" x 2¾" Telespar ties into the three main frame rails.

The ends of the Telespar are left extended to accommodate accessory
mounts such as tarp poles and wall stakes.

From this...

To this, total cost $ 180.00

Additional accessories. this square steel tubing is called Telespar, it comes in 8 various sizes designed to fit into each other, short sections of Telespar can be welded together creating stakes for mounting walls or other accessories like poles for an awning.

The welded piece slips over the extended section and is held in place with a spring pin.

Adding four stakes turns the motorcycle trailer into a small  but usefull utility trailer.
Box measures 22" x 33" x 82"

VERY cool, and efficient... looks like a lot of thought went into this to make the fit and function work well with very little sacrifice
