My personal preference is a Ranch RS9000XL.  I don't know how much you're willing to spend.  I always ran Rancho 9000s on my 85 truck and was pretty happy.  When I first switched over to my 90 SAS 4Runner I used the Bilstein 5125s that Marlin sells and quickly replaced them.  They my suspension bottomed out constantly when rock crawling in Moab and I did also notice that they were not good at controlling my suspension when I was loaded up for camping.  I went to the Rancho RS9000XL and have been much happier (I run them maxed out all the time).  I will say that on the street the Bilstein shocks rode really nice and I was happy with them when I wasn't rock crawling or loaded down.

Personally, I would choose Rancho over Skyjacker though I have never run a Skyjacker shock.  If you want the gas charged design take a look at the Bilsteins as I would anticipate them being a better product and maybe not that much more expensive.
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.
