What tcase adapter is this?
« on: Feb 29, 2016, 08:46:40 PM »
I picked this tcase up today to eventually put in a toy doubler in my samurai. When I picked it up I noticed that this had an adapter and was told that it was for a 350 or 700 Tranny. I don't know if this is true and don't know anything about Trannys. Just want to know if what this is for and if anyone has seen these. In the bottom it says "Downey" so I take it it's from Downey offroad but not sure. Also the spline on this is a little different then I am used to seeing. It is supposed to be off an 83 truck.

The input of your t-case is from a t-case that came behind a 4 speed transmission

He says that because if you look at the splines they are flat across the top. Those only came behind a 4 speed transmission. Your adapter is a downey for either a t350 or 700r4. Won't know exactly which until you clean it and give us a part number. They did make one that worked with both a t350 and 700r but had to use a 2wd trans and a special shaft that they supplied if I remember correctly.

No. The structural integrity is still there. Run it!

Actually, the 4 speed input has additional splines in the rear of the input. Sorta like marlins total spline technology. Kinda makes you wonder where he got the idea, eh? It's actually much stronger. I've heard they stopped it because it makes it harder to remove the case. I thibk they stopped doing it because it was cheaper and faster to machine. And unnecessary strength for what the truck was intended.

The input will not work on any  toyota trans besides a 4 speed. You will have to grind off the splines on the inside of the input. It's pretty easy to do tho.

So if I was to use this as the rear t case of a doubler I would have to grind down the splines?

I would hope you would spend the $200 for a 23 spline input anyway if youe doing a doubler

So I cleaned the adapter and don't see a part number anywhere both top bottom or sides.

Mine has a part number cast on the side of it. Not sure why yours wouldn't but its either for one or both. Did it come with the shaft for the trans?

No just the adapter. I don't think I will use it anyways. I plan to run a w56 and the dual cases with lower gears in my samurai. Now I need to pick up the another tcaase,Tranny, lower gears, doubler adapter, and adapter to mate the Tranny to my sidekick engine. Darn money pit.

I don't know if I want to do another engine swap. Plus I got it refereed in CA and we know how much of a pain that is.  Maybe in the future but not soon u less the engine takes a dump which I doubt it since I  rebuilt it before I did the swap.  That could happen since I am not a professional engine builder.
