w56c heating up while in 4L?
« on: Feb 25, 2016, 11:42:36 PM »
Hello, I have a 1990 pickup. Ive notice when I go into 4low, my transmission seems to warm up a decent amount, is that normal? the tranny and t case have around 285,000 miles on em, and most likely never been serviced. I don't hear any out of the ordinary noises, and see no leaks. any input would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the viscosity in the oil is gone, with lower viscosity, you will have higher temps, I would change the oil in trans and t case

Take the interior boots off the shifters so you can see the transmission and transfer thru the hole in the hump.

Take a short drive and listen.      You'll definitely hear a problem if the bearings are shot..........

Thanks for the responses guys. I took a closer look tonight, and found a leak coming from the shifter base area (top of transmission), anybody know any reasons why it may be leaking from there?

in between shifter base and transmission, should be a thin oil deflector plate. make sure its there
