Birf. Elim or Longfields??
« on: May 27, 2003, 05:08:46 AM »
I'm putting my toy axle together and I'm trying to do it right the first time w/ HD parts. Randy's Elim. Kit runs $599, which would be about the same for Longfields birfs and inner axles. What do you guys think?  :~~: :dunno:

My suggestion is longs and regular inner axles.

I'd go Long's inner and outer, you'll get the added strength but if they do break it's pretty cheap to have a set of stock birf's and inners as trail spares.

Randy's R&P's Elim kit comes with 4340 Chromo shafts. You could slap a set of 760x joints on there and have some good beef don't you think?? Wouldn't this be a good thing ... Maybe better than Longs through and through?  :chew:

you break the birf elim. axle and you're hosed.  Even to get it replaced you must return the busted one.  That doesn't help on the trail.

Longfields all the way... carry a spare birf in case you need to sell it to someone else.

Are these thing shipping yet from Randy's? Can anyone verify how much sharper you can turn with the u-joint setup?

you mean 450$+ dollars..The only problem I can see with the smufield is the same problem bobby had,Is with the core its possible to have small cracks in the core that end in failure..Thats why bobby went to using new bifirelds and no more cores..It was said most of bobbys failures were cores. So I'm sure the same will happen with the smuf in due time..But The price is sooo right for the smurf.

you can have new ones so no cracks, man at this price i will buy 4 and will never have to worry about breaking birf. and since it's in canada it would only cost like 10$ for the shipping.

I've contacted him and he tell me that it would be 200$CAD each + shipping for new birfield so no risk of crack, I will contact my local toyota dealer to know how much they sell me new birf., they sell stuff at almost the cost price so should be great.
