Crawling with Marlin
Hello

Just wanted to say hi to the community. I've been a long time lurker but first time actually registering. I guess I finally registered because I'm starting to get interested in my truck again and this community has always been so full of good information it's hard to pass up being a part of it. My truck has been sitting for years and I'm just now getting it ready to start driving again.
My Truck - 85' SR5 Xtra Cab
Engine - DOA racing 150 hp EFI version
Suspension - All Pro Offroad extreme lift (I believe that's what they use to call it) - Rancho 9000's with compressor kit and in cab controls
Trans - Marlin R151
Transfer case - stock
Axles - stock with 4:88's and ARB front and rear
Interior - In cab roll cage
Wheels & Tires - AE589's with 33x15x12.50 BFG Mud Terrains
Due to sitting for so long and complete neglect on my part I'm currently in the middle of a hone, re-ring and new head. It's crazy but two months ago I had little to zero interest in my truck and once I started working on it again it's darn sickness. I'm completely consumed with fixing it back up and taking it out so I can show my 8 yr. old son what it's all about.
By the way, what's up with a good portion of Marlin's stuff being out of stock? Mainly bumpers and stuff?
Well don't want to be too long winded, just wanted to introduce myself.

It is addicting... Sounds like a nice truck. Where are you from? I was wondering the same thing about some out of stock things. Kinda sad I'll never order from trail mart but alot of things I want arn't available from Marlin.

Bay Area CA for the last 14 years, was So Call before that.
Yeah now that I have the itch again there are quite a few things that I would like to pick up but everything I've looked at that I'm interested in in the Marlin store is currently out of stock. Has this been the case for a while now or something short term?

Just received my brand new PnP head with stainless oversized valves yesterday. Waiting for my intake to come back, had it cleaned up and port matched to the head.
Also just received a new to me OEM inclinometer so the dash is currently off with prepping the install for that. At the same time I'm replacing the heater/vent control unit which broke due to a seized heater bypass valve which is also being replaced.
One step at a time and it will be road going once again.
Would post picks but post count is too low.

I just traded my 4bt project for a 87 runner.... it has the inclinometer setup, altimiter, etc. Works good. Just did a road trip and it seemed fairly accurate.

Hey MrHilux,
I mainly got it for nostalgia purposes, a friend of mine had one not long after we got out of high school. I can remember back then how I thought it was kind of cheesey and now I think they are totally cool. It's weird how things change. Looking forward to it out on the trail.

It's been awhile since my last update;
Rebuilt the front axle with chromoly longfields, chromoly hubs, all new rebuild kit
Rebuilt the rear end with new gears, chromoly axles, all new bearings and seals
Picked up an old school, 4runner style shell and in the process of reconditioning it
Installed a full alarm system
Replaced the cracked old dash pad with a less cracked dash pad
Picked up a full set of 35x12.50x15 Wrangler MT/R's
Running better than it has for a long time but a few leaks here and there with a few little bugs that need to be ironed out
Headed down to Pismo tomorrow for the weekend
On the horizon:
Dual ultimate
Front and rear bumpers
winch
Bed cage inside the shell with rear seating for a couple of small kids
5.29s with v6 rear and HP front
Quite possibly a boosted 3rz but that's further down the road
Hope the community is doing well,
Bret
