3rd Gen 4runner cab on 1st gen runner frame
« on: Apr 22, 2015, 07:47:14 PM »
Anyone out there ever done this? I have looked around a bit and haven't come up with much. I'm kinda getting the idea to swap a 3rd Gen cab on my 1st gen frame. Get some luxury going haha. thanks guys!

I was wondering about the cab to frame mounting locations and gas tank situation. I'm gonna assume the gas tank would have to be moved to the driver side I'm order to be able to fit the 3rd Gen cab on?

You mean the tacoma style 4runner?  We've done 3rd gen 90s truck bodies on 1st gen truck frames and i put the 1st gen 4runner on my '94 truck frame.  In all cases the front mounts by your feet lined up perfect and the read cab almost. I'm guessing the front core support stuff would give you some work.

A 98 4runner cab on an 94 4runner frame. Good to know! Was there anything tricky with the gas tank?

I have done it B4 not a big pain to do but I am a professional fabricator so making all the body mounts was not to hard. I also had my own shop with two lifts to make it seem easier.  As far as gas tank I used a Ford gas tank that fit between the frame rails. If I was to do it again I wouldn't do it because the second gen frame was a 88 with a  v6 3.0 which made the engine swap to a 3.4 easy but was stuck with ifs frame that sucks for making a low cog crawler. End result was to tall of a rig for my personal preference.
