Pillow block bearing
« on: Oct 10, 2015, 08:05:32 AM »
Here are some pictures on what I did to install a pillow block bearing on a 2-piece D-shaft. I have been running this for quite a few years with no problems. I have had it to 55 mph with no vibrations, The reason I did it was I bent three one-piece shafts in about three months, my rig has a 123 WB.

While I admire your craftsmanship and thinking outside the box, what would have prevented your being able to use a factory carrier bearing and 2 piece shaft? Dual cases?

After going through about 5-6 stock ones and the cost I decided to try something different. I think the pillow block cost about $30.00 and I am still on the original one. I got the idea from different comp rigs and talking to builders. Center bearing range from $90.00 to over $200.00.

Can we get a side shot of your driveline angle :)

So we can compare two piece vs single piece on a 3rd gen extra cab truck

I now understand your reasoning. Thanks for the explanation. Looks like a much tougher bearing.
