I'm looking for the best way to go
« on: Dec 13, 2013, 08:47:01 AM »
so I have a steering knuckle with Theo broken studs in the front. I tryed to drill them and easy out them and brokethem off in there to. so now I'm getting a new/used knuckle but should I drill and tap them for bigger studs?? I plan on making a 5 bolt like longfeild sells.

is that gonna be the best way for high steer?? I'm open for ideas but money is tight.

the key is to always keep them properly torqued...... not under torque and not over torqued......

get the arp studs and would also do the 5th stud for extra peace of mine.

i still run the stock studs but ive only broken one set of 4 studs, and thats through some hard trails..i check torque before..during..and after the run and never push the limits of the steering.

stock i think is 71 lbs.

for arp studs most use lock tite into the knuckle at 30 lbs and i think 100 lbs for the stud nut.

have a look at this:

I go about 20 lbs into the knuckle(no loctite) and 85-90 for the stud nut. I re-torque them every couple runs and I've never broken a stud.

Last time I was on the con' I broke two studs off on the same side.  Luckily noticed my driver wheel flopping around.  Someone had an air compressor with drill.  I had bits, beer, and studds so they helped.  Worked out good.  ARP ones havn't broke on me before.
