new project: 2wd to 4wd
« on: Jun 30, 2013, 02:42:34 PM »
Been feeling guilty about selling my cruiser so im on to another project. Picked up a 94' 2wd that im going to swap over. Got the rig from my mom, she has been wanting a shot gun so I im giving her mine in trade.

parts acquired so far are:
bare front axle
v6 4.88 third with a detroit
r150 tranny with 5.15 first gear and a single case with 4.7 gears

"Never make your passion your occupation. it will loose it's luster and become work. that's why i never wanted to become a gynecologist!"

I also taught him how to put in 5min of hard work and then spend 15min staring and admiring what you have done...

Very good idea, will be watching this!  I've had a beat and ugly 81 2wd shortbed for years and have been toying with the same idea, but my roommate would never let me work on something here.  Well, my male roommate would love it, but his fiance likes nothing fun or cool.

Sell that truck, and use the $ to get a 2WD diesel Toyota pickup. Convert that to 4WD and then what you could do is run any engine you want without having to worry about the corrupt California smog program.

Or retain the diesel engine and have something more unique.  I wanted to find a way to wedge a 4 or 5 cylinder diesel in mine, and the right euro diesel can be bolted to an aisin tranny

parts are starting to pile up. Im gonna wait till I have everything cleaned and ready to swap before any cutting starts. I still have to get the truck smogged and road legal before that though so its going to be a few weeks before anything really starts happening.
