Topic: Anyone know this tranny

Stupid thread titles aside ........I have a transmission that I think is Toyota but can only find one marking.  It is stamped 17-1 on the outside of the case.

The fill and drain plugs look like my r150f.  The input bearing says Koyo.  That's why it think it is a yota.  And it was in the bed of a 4 cyl Taco.

My camera won't work.  Is there any way to help the ID of this thing?

Its really hard to determine what type of transmission you have without a good pic. if it came out of a 4cyl taco, then it would be a w59. But other than that, its really hard to figure out what you have.

Still no camera, but I'll get one.  Only markings are the 17-1 as said earlier.  And a 7 on the "centerpeice" between the to cast case halves.

Stupid camera turned on, I walked in the garage and it died. 

Sounds like all my truck problems...They never happen when anyone else is watching.

Thanks.  I looked there but never zoomed in.  Duh.

Looks like a W-59 all cast ribs look the same as well an drain/fill plugs.  No top plate on the shifter.  But I'm pretty sure.

Now that looks like 1995-2004 2RZ/3RZ-FE   Which sounds good.  The truck(in the bed) it came out was a 4Cly. of those years. 

Being the first time inspecting I really don't know where to look for trouble.  Shift forks move the couplers.  The bearings on either end of both shafts seem smooth.  The input shaft(is that the name?) wiggles a little when the case is separated.  Is that normal?

Does the case help guide it when back together or is there something wrong?

What tools would I need to tear it down further if something was wrong?  I see c-clips holding the bearings.  Do I need any pullers or a press for reassembly?

I don't see a rebuild kit or individual parts.  Does Marlin have them?  Also no bellhousing on this thing.

I guess I'll pull the one installed on the Taco still.  I hope it is good or I can make one good one, if they both have issues.

A small amount of play is normal on the input shaft. As long as its not making any odd noises and doesn't feel gritty I'd toss it in and try running it. Most trannys will require a press for removing some bearings and gears.

i have a 98 w59 in the garage let me go look and see if i can find those same casting markings as you have.

Thanks everyone.  I think I' leave it alone.  Put it back together and store/sell it.  I have R150f in my taco so I don't need it.
