what gear ratio with auto and 35" tires?
« on: Dec 29, 2012, 03:07:37 PM »
i have one more question for you guys. the 4 runner im building for my son has a 22re and and an auto. he will be driving this to highschool and on the trails when we go wheeling. specs on the rig are as follows. 87 22re auto  sas 2.5 sky springs  in front , sky hanger , sky 63" chevy rears kit. duals with 2.28 front 4.7 rear. i have a stock rear and an 85 front im building and i need to find out what gears to run. i have a set of 5.29's and a third with 4.88 and an auburn limmited slip. also have a custom ford 9" rear with detroit and 4.88's in it also setup for a toyota 6 lug pattern that i pulled from an 82 mini truck. needs to be gone through been sitting with the third removed. would like to run stock toyota because i think the ford 9 " will be overkill in a runner with that combo. also ford 9's rob some power from what ive been told. let me hear it i could use some help.

sound like a plan. i will install the 5.29 thirds after i put in a detroit in one and the front will have the auburn for now . later i will put in a zip lockerin the front.

Better upgrade the brakes or you'll never stop in it double low.

i was planning on fj60 rotors and the stock ifs calipers in front  with stock drums out back. if the converter is unlocked you think it will still not stop. ive never had a crawler with an auto. my 66 fj40 is 230:1 and it would destroy itself if i hit the brakes without pushing in the clutch. ive tested it.  i was thinking an auto would be ok.

I ran 4.88's behind an Auto 3.0 with 37's and never had a problem! Maybe it was the power from the 3.0 that made it bare able?
