A/C Question (Fixed it!)
« on: Aug 13, 2012, 09:04:48 AM »
My A/C was working great and suddenly quit cooling. 88 pickup with 22RE. Did some searching but haven't figured it out yet. Here's what I checked so far.

No power to clutch.

Blower works on all speeds and button lights up. Fuses behind glovebox are good. Turning knob on amplifier doesn't change anything. System is fully charged. A/C idle up valve works. I can feel the blower relay clicking and if I pull it out the blower stops.

The blue wire with the black stripe going to the clutch has no power to it. If I put a jumper wire from the battery direct to the clutch, it works. The A/C will blow cold.

Anybody have a schematic? Not sure how its wired or how to check thermister.

Any ideas? I'm in Arizona and it's HOT!

Low freon will shut the system down to protect the compressor.

You verified it's fully charged with a set of gauges? I will try to dig up the schematic...

Yeah, It's fully charged. It cools great if I put battery voltage to the clutch. I found a link to download an 88 FSM but it was dead. I'm thinking either the thermistor is telling the amplifier it's iced up or maybe the amplifier is bad. Everything else electrical works.

Got some troubleshooting to do today. Thanks for the  replies.

Fixed it!

The connector to the clutch looked good on the outside but, had no continuity. Wires broken inside. The FSM had a trouble shooting guide for the amplifier with pin checks for the connector. The pin to the clutch had no continuity.

Thanks for the replies Marlin people. And TTORA. Pirate just flammed me.
