C clip or no C clip ??????
« on: Jun 24, 2012, 12:56:08 PM »
ok i know many people that don't put the C clip on the outer shaft. my Question is does this help with steering. my theory as a nub is that if the c clip wasn't on it would be able to slip in a little to give a little more steer. Am i right or wrong. :dunno: :help:

Wrong, plus it may move the axle seal off the sweet spot and mess the seal up.

AHHH, ya i didn't think about that. then how do people get away with it? Are they using the 30 splines.  so what do i do for more turn radios any suggestions because it takes me the two lanes plus some to make a u turn and that is with me going into the shoulder and onto the opposite shoulder and backing up to make the turn. it the an adjustment that i can possibly make. i am kinda lost on this one.

Are the steering stops on your knuckles adjusted right?  Maybe your pitman arm is not installed correctly. Does it turn right better than it turns left?

ya i was thinking about the pitman arm not being centered. and come to think of it i did change to a flat from the offset.  but it happened after i put new seals in my knuckles. and i had to change the inner seal because my birfield had rubbed on it due to the stops not being set right.
so that is something i will check....  :head scratch:

Is it is a Sky flat pitman arm? They are about .75" shorter so your steering will not turn as far.

If it turns futher one way then the other, you need to adjust your drag link. Point the wheels straight, center the steering box, adjust DL to fit into pitman arm.

Also check your steering stops are not adjusted out to far.
