86' auto runner build
« on: Mar 18, 2012, 10:42:36 PM »
well this wil be the cherry popper, my 86 runner build is my first i have bought all my parts for SAS this is a budget build.  So far my budget has come to work in my favor, i hope this continues, but since i have about $200 left and i need to still need 63" chevy's, rear shackles, rear shackle mounts, block for the rear and the front mounts for all front.  Now i Know i can pick this up for around $300-350 but i want to fab up all my own mounts. i have a good plan for the rear perch/block. I would like some help with an idea  on some strong built stuff.

i would like to finish this off with some detroits or one

After this is done Auto Trans to Manuel swap with dual's

i will be happy for a sec maybe but rock sliders and bumpers/

I will be doing this with some buddies so we will see.

maybe you should just wheel the ifs since I saw your post asking if the front is geared the same as the rear  ::)

so a few days ago i came across a thread that a guy was doing a build and he had most of his dim mentions and some good pic for the rear 63' chevy mounts. So i decided to go and buy the metal and her we go.

are you really going to run the spring hangers that long? or you going to cut them down?

i put them up there and they are kinda long but we will see. i got this length from a guy that built these. i never went to look at any of the store bought ones . since they have that triangle piece that you can weld up to your mount i figured this would be fine. let me no any concerns though.   :dunno:

so today was the day that i was suppose to get the sas done and well it was started. i was able to get the ifs dropped. i was waiting on a buddy that had the tanks for the torch. he got to my house around 330 when the day before he was talking about drinking coffee over here. funny. well he got here and well there was no oxygen, AWSOME. now that it is saturday. So i could cut off a the brackets for the frame but i still wouldn't be able to blow the hole threw the frame. for today we are done but it wasn't a total bust we were able to come up with a well built front hanger.

i will post some pics when i feel more accomplished

some pics

i plated the frame for the hoops and closed the motor mount opening.
I put a clear coat on my shackles i think i will go metal for them.

I just think it is awesome how high i have to get it to take the axle out.
Had some rain come in the last few days and had to get creative with the plastic to extend the working space and stop the puddling by my garage door. my wife said a county make car came when i was dropping of the kids at school and got out and looked from the street. wonder if i will get a letter in the mail. i have some yuppie neighbors

well had to go backwards for a second. the rear shackle mount ended up being to wide. instead of trying to make it work i cut her off and welded up one i bought from golden state motorsports. it sucks to find this out at 3:30 in the morning,

now its fixed

the rear leaf mount didn't look half bad.

and here is a, Yay the rear is up pick some time at night.

Is the front going to be locked too? Nice build so far. Wish I had a place close like Golden State.
